Local Attractions

We are on the edge of the lovely village of Halwill Junction. The Junction Inn Pub serves great food and is only 10 – 15 min walk from the fishery. The village also boasts Karen’s Takeaway which does a lovely fish and chips as well as many other dishes. Also, in the village there is a village shop which sells all the essentials and a hardware store. The Market town of Holsworthy is only 6 miles away where you will find a Co-op and a Waitrose.

We have compiled lots of information on the best places to eat in the area, all the local grocery shops and lots of brochures which can be found in the welcome pack in the Lodge. Here are some of the most popular activities to do in the area.

Bike Riding & Walking

We are lucky to be close to many stunning cycling and walking routes. Some of these trails are downloadable from the following website: www.ridetherubycountry.co.uk/ruby-country-activities/cycling. There are Cycle Hire shops in Okehampton, so you do not have to bring your own equipment.

We are extremely lucky to have The Halwill Junction Nature reserve on our doorstep. This is the disused railway for which the village is well known for, converted into a surfaced cycle, and walking path. You can gain access to the nature reserve from Beeching Close in the village. This trail connects the village to Cookworthy Forest.

Cookworthy forest has a lovely 2-mile circular walking route which will take you through an impressive conifer plantation. Here you will get to see the beautiful wildlife up close such as the ravens, buzzards, and red deer.

Walking in the Ruby country is an ideal past time. There are lots of beautiful routes to explore. We have copies of the 8 walking trails which make up the Ruby Trail Walks. These can also be downloaded from the following website:
